[Bill Vine]

Bill Vine (1980) is an experimental composer, sound artist and ‘luthier electronique’. His current research explores audience engagement, performance practice and the re-use of purpose built electronic musical instruments in experimental music.

Bill Vine was educated at the University of East Anglia where he completed his PhD in composition. His thesis was entitled “Composing the Instrument: An Alternative Approach to Musical Relationships between Composer, Instrument, Performer and Audience”

Bill has recently created an online exhibition for Sound and Music and The Google Cultural Institute in association with the British Music Collection at Heritage Quay entitled “Composer-Built Instruments and the British Music Collection – An Holistic Approach to Music Making”

Bill is the lead artist for [UNIT]. Having conceived the idea, he asked Anthony, Dan and Molly to add their respective talents to the mix. Bill is composer, sound designer and creator of the electronic/computer-based elements, performing on both acoustic and electronic instruments for this phase of [UNIT].

As a result of his activities with [UNIT] Bill was made an Associate Artist at Norwich Arts Centre in July 2016.

He is also currently undertaking research into experimental music/sound art in Slovenia, made possible through a successful application for an Arts Council International Development Grant. This research will consist of two visits to Slovenia (Maribor in November 2016 and Ljubljana in March 2017), the results of which will be written up for publication upon completion of the two trips.
